I arrived at 2:00 AM and found the hotel closed because of a suspected virus case. They took me to a hotel around the corner. It was OK but a lesser hotel. They had no control and it was not their fault. However, there was and has been no offers of any compensation. After going to Hot An we returned and booked a night again in the Metropol. The facilities and dining options were great. However we were informed breakfast would be an additional $35 each. At the price we paid that was an unexpected surprise. Hotels in Hanoi at a third of the price include great breakfasts. Because museums had been closed earlier we asked the concierge desk if they were reopened. They said yes. We went out and found them all closed. They should have known.
Oasis in this dirty town. Food was ok. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Hotel is a gem.
Lovely comfortable room. Great choice.

I have travelled to many locations over the last 20+ years in Southeast Asia. I have stayed in many wonderful hotels in Cambodia and Vietnam. The people I was traveling with are even more experienced travelers in the region. We all agreed that the Hanoi Metropole is virtually without equal.
The hotel perfectly frames and captures the genuine charm of the city in ways too numerous to list. What sets them apart the most, in my opinion, is the uniformly superior quality of their entire staff from top to bottom. I cannot recall one person who was not over the top in trying to do the best possible job.
There was one young woman in particular who best personified kindness and professionalism. Her name is Annie. With people like her working there, I would hate to be in competition with the Hanoi Metropole. I hope to return there soon.
Great hotel and well deserved its great reputation.
Really enjoyed the great welcome and hospitality by the Sofitel team will definitely come visit and stay again.

Absolutely superb stay, worth every penny. Celebrating our anniversary, we were given complimentary chocolates and flowers, such a lovely surprise. The hotel was exceptional and the selection at breakfast was amazing. Something different each day. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Snor recommend this hotel enough. Very convenient for shops and the lake. There is a market on a weekend about 15 minutes walk away, lots of roads are closed to traffic making it a very pleasant stroll. If I go to Hanoi again I would definitely choose this hotel again.
The greeters in costume were so amazingly friendly and welcoming especially Ling and her trainee...spa was so nice too

It was a very very average hotel for the price I paid for.
Nothing stood out from the breakfast - only soy and normal milk available. Food selection was limited
Room was very small could barely fit 2 luggages on the floor

This is a wonderful hotel. Very busy, but wonderful. It has everything - beauty, amenities, excellent food, very attentive staff who even remember your name! There wasn't anything I didn't like.

I stayed on night as my travel plans changed and I would arrive in Hanoi one day earlier than planned. I wanted to check this hotel out and I'm glad I did. The hotel itself was pretty much perfect, but in addition I got upgraded to another room and was 'guest of the day' - which was a pleasant surprise. Great room, friendly staff. I loved the bamboo bar and the buffet breakfast. Location is brilliant. I have nothing bad to say.
The history of the hotel is wonderful. The concierge service is extremely accommodating and helpful. Great breakfast. Overall the staff was very sweet and attentive to my 6 year old daughter. They went out of their way to make my daughter fall in love with Hanoi. Special little things such as giving her the traditional costume of Vietnam and a special presentation of macarons and artwork for the mid-autumn festival. A wonderful hotel!

The rooms and facilities are classy, elegant and clean. But the most impressive part of our stay was the SERVICE: check-in, concierge, restaurant/bar service, etc.... everyone in the hotel gave highly attentive, warm, respectful and delightful service. Will definitely stay here again.

It is just a true oasis after going around the hustle and bustle of Hanoi. The Bamboo Bar as well as all of the restaurants are excellent. In particular we were surprised by the meat quality of Angelina. The service is truly top notch and the ambiance of the place in general is amongst the best in the world. I have stayed in many of the top 10 hotels in the world and whilst this hotel may not from initial impressions of the facilities appear to be in that category I left knowing that the experience frankly certainly was. This hotel has a history and flavour that others cannot manufacture whatever resources they may throw at trying to do so. Hats off to the staff.
One of the best hotel that I have stayed. Worth the price though quite expensive.

The Metropole Hotel hints at the glamour and luxury of a bygone era, but with all the modern amenities and services that could be expected of a modern-day five-star hotel. Excellently located, it is an oasis amid the hustle and bustle of Hanoi.
Importantly for us, the restaurant menus also itemise a number of gluten-free options. I can only hope I’ll be lucky enough to stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

From the moment we arrived the staff we welcoming and attentive. Chatting to the lady who showed us to our rooms, I mentioned we were staying as part of our silver wedding celebration- when we came back to the room later the staff had made a lovely patisserie display with photos- really thoughtful.
The breakfast was amazing. We had one room in each wing- both spacious but I preferred the original wing

Lovely hotel - French colonial style. Their floral arrangements were gorgeous. Love the use of lotus flowers throughout. They have a good breakfast, though not as extensive as I’ve experienced in other Asian hotels e.g. Shangri-La chain. Totally enjoyed our stay.

Luxurious accommodations in Hanoi. Imagine walking out of the hot Hanoi humidity and into the Sofitel Metropole. First, you are warmly greeted at the door by the gracious staff and then you enter the lobby and are welcomed by the tantalizing smell of Hermes eau d'orange verte and the exquisite a/c! We were kindly upgraded to a suite in the historic part of the hotel and it was quite grand. Everything was top notch with the level of service exceptional. My husband and I are not the 5 star hotel type so this was a special treat. Now I am sold on luxury lodging!
Room booked was unable to accommodate number of people booked for through Expedia. Had to pay more to upgrade. We had been misled.
